The Restaurant
The wine bar - here we call it Weinstube - has seen very few changes since 1963. Some of the bare wooden tables are now a whopping 50 years old. The comfy benches from back in the day are still cozy thanks to our amazing upholsterer.
We’ve swapped out the old bar in the front room for a modern one, which has become a real hotspot - lots of folks love to sit and eat right at the bar. The front room is brighter now, but other than that, we’ve kept things pretty much the same.
We can host 60 people and another 8 at the bar. We try to offer a seat to spontaneous guests as well, On weekends, though, it can be tricky to find space for larger groups. It’s best to book ahead,
The Garden
A place to unwind – our idyllic courtyard in the heart of the city.
When the weather’s nice, you can also relax in our lovely garden with its Mediterranean flair.
Our romantic courtyard is a peaceful oasis in the vibrant neighborhood. Natural stone paths, blooming flowers, and lush greenery create a very special atmosphere.
Our garden is open from May to September.
The Wines
We have proven: there are excellent winemakers in the region - German wines don't need to hide themselves behind the Italian or French ones.
We revise our wine list every three months, so we can always pair our seasonal dishes with the perfect wine. For years now, we have been working with the local winemakers such as Bernd Kreis, Georg Mandl, Nicolay & Schartner, and Felix Adelmann.
We are happy to offer professional wine advice, although the wine list itself, which is structured according to taste rather than growing region, is already very informative.
The Story
Weinstube Fröhlich in Stuttgart's Old Town is the institution. It's a shining beacon in the red-light district, renowned for its exceptional quality and the unwavering commitment of its manager, Mancika Kohler-Kešinović, who has been one of the friendly faces of the establishment since 2001.
Since 1963, Weinstube Fröhlich, originally known as Weinstube Widmer, has been an integral part of Stuttgart city scene. Founded by Emma Widmer, it quickly became a meeting place for artists and journalists in the heart of the state capital. In 1988, the long-time feuilleton chief of the Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper, Hans Fröhlich, took over the wine bar, which subsequently bore his name. After Hans Fröhlich's sudden death in 1996, Christina Beutler took over the establishment. In early 2023, Christina Beutler retired.
Since 2001, co-creator Mancika Kohler-Kešinović has enriched the team of enthusiasts at Weinstube Fröhlich. She has been a co-owner since 2008. Since January 2024, Mancika Kohler-Kešinović has had two prominent co-shareholders at her side: Alexander Wehrle, CEO of VfB Stuttgart football club, and Jens Zimmermann, chairman of the citizen initiative Pro Stuttgart, host and owner of a sports & event agency. The day-to-day management remains with the managing partner Mancika Kohler-Kešinović, while Wehrle and Zimmermann will keep a low profile.
Lisa König, Kohler-Kešinović's sister, who has been ensuring a welcoming atmosphere in the service since 2001, and head chef Andreas Neu, who has been responsible for the consistently high quality in the kitchen since 2009, are also responsible for the long-standing and successful continuity.
The successful concept will be continued with the new shareholders. Swabian specialties at a high level, combined with selected regional and national wines. In addition, there are plans to revive the cultural program of previous years on selected days.
The history of Weinstube Fröhlich is marked by many artists and cultural figures. As a reminder of this time, the wine bar offers themed evenings with an interesting program from time to time.
